Graeme Barlow & Shawna Tregunna: Distribution Is the Only Moat Left
Graeme has been a founder since he was selling World of Warcraft gold on eBay at 15. Shawna got dragged into entrepreneurship when an investor asked how much it would cost to make her quit her job. Fifteen years later they run FounderLink together — 30-plus dinners, close to 2,000 founders, in Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, Tampa and Lisbon — and they spend their days watching what actually works across hundreds of companies.
This one rewired how I think about my own business. Building is not the moat anymore — anyone with a cloud subscription can vibe code your product in 72 hours — so distribution and attention are the whole game. Putting "AI-powered" on your website is the equivalent of saying "internet-powered." Price as high as the market will bear, solve rich people's problems, and never sell to the middle. And before you build anything: landing page, $20 a day in meta ads, 500 emails, call every one of them, pre-sell $50K, then build. I changed my own website copy while we were still recording.
