AI Replaced My Video Editor in 15 Minutes (Here's the Exact Setup)

David DiNardo explains how he replaced his video editor with Claude Code, Descript and Higgsfield: the raw recording goes in, and fifteen minutes later the full edit, three Shorts, the thumbnail and captions come out, for about $300 a month in apps he already paid for instead of $1,000 to $1,500 a month. He argues that technical work like editing is the first to go, and that the people doing it have two ways out: become the premium one percent, or package the system and sell it to business owners who will never set it up themselves.

  1. The setup is three apps David already paid for, Descript, Claude Code and Higgsfield, about $300 a month, replacing an editor who cost $150 an episode and $1,000 to $1,500 a month.
  2. Fifteen minutes after sending the raw recording to Claude Code he had the full edit, the reels and Shorts in his format, the thumbnail and the captions, plus an automation to post them.
  3. He gave Claude Code one of his editor's finished videos as the example to copy, which is how the format carried over.
  4. If you are an editor, sell the system instead of the hours: set up the automations for business owners and charge $199 a month; David says he would pay it and still save 80%.
  5. A hundred clients at $199 a month is a business; the technical work gets replaced, the formula and the distribution are what you sell.
  6. The middle ground is gone: be the one percent of the one percent that business owners pay $2,000 to $3,000 a reel for, or sell to the masses, but generalists will lose job after job.
  7. The same shift is coming for graphic design, bookkeeping and accounting, every knowledge-work niche, and the first movers who build a system inside a niche will make a very good living.

I paid an editor $1,000 to $1,500 a month for my podcast edits, reels and Shorts. Last week I sent the raw recording to Claude Code instead. Fifteen minutes later I had the full edit, three Shorts in my format, the thumbnail and the captions, plus an automation that posts them.

The setup is three apps I was already paying for: Descript, Claude Code and Higgsfield, about $300 a month. This episode is the honest version of what that means for me, for the editor I've worked with for years, and for anyone whose job is technical work AI can now do. The answer isn't to panic. Become the 1% premium version, or package the system and sell it to the business owners who will never set it up themselves.

0:00This world is getting really nutty. So I was on social media the other day scrolling, and I saw someone do a full edit of their video through Claude Code So I tried it for this podcast. To back up a little bit, I use a subcontractor to do all my edits, all my reels, all my shorts. Pay them every month, every week for all the edits, give me thumbnails, give me all that, give me the package.

0:25I sent it to Claude Code yesterday, and it did everything for me. Within 15 minutes, I was able to get the full edited version, reels, YouTube shorts in the same format, thumbnails, captions. And then it was... I set up an automation to automatically post it on social media. Instead of the back and forth with the editor, paying the editor, all the time associated with it did the exact same job as the editor.

0:56I took an example of what the editor did, I put it into Claude Code and used it as an example. We need to process that for a second. Editing, for example, is a specific j- we talked about graphic designers with Higgsfield and all that. Now, mention Claude Code has Higgsfield on it, Descript. There's a few apps out there that are connected to it to leverage the professionalism of it.

1:23Higgsfield, if you haven't been on it's incredible. I think they just raised a billion dollars. So my process, for full transparency, is, Descript AI, upload the r- the edit, video. It's connected to my Claude Code. Descript sends Claude Code the information. Claude Code then edits it in Descript, and then the thumbnail is edited by Higgsfield.

1:49Three apps, $50 subscription, $258 subscription, and $50 sub- so $300 total to get fully edited, real-time reels, YouTube shorts, and, full videos with thumbnails. I used to pay an editor $150 for each episode, over a thousand, between $1,000 and $1,500 a month. Just cut my time, cost, and everything down significantly, and I was already paying for the apps, so it's not even costing me extra.

2:22But just gets me thinking about where this world is going. Editing used to be such a pain, and people specialized in it. Now, that barrier is completely gone, and so many people are gonna be us- leveraging AI to do it, and it's just gonna get better and better. This is the worst... It's, AI is, will always get better.

2:44So the craziness of thinking that jobs are not gonna get replaced is out of this mind, because I'm already replacing it now. But if you're an editor and you know this, a lot of business owners don't wanna figure it out or don't have the time to figure it out, capacity, skill set, whatever. Go sell to them You take your editing skills to now business skills, set up the automations, sell it to them, do it for them on a monthly fee.

3:13That's how you have to start thinking about this AI game. They're-- The technical work will be replaced. How can you take that technical work, build a formula, a business model, and then go sell it for distribution? And now you can get 100 clients to be in your ecosystem and sell to them for $199 a month.

3:36If someone came to me and said, "Hey, I'll do the setup. I'll take care of everything for $199 a month," done. I'm still saving 80% of the cost, and it's doing, producing the same result, and I don't have to worry about it. So there's money to be made doing this. It's just how are you gonna make it? The editor versus setting up a business and teaching people how to do it.

4:00And that mindset shift has to be taken very seriously and why I'm doing this solo video now. It is so important to get your head wrapped around how things are changing from, AI editing, graphic designers, b- eventually bookkeeping, accounting. Like all knowledge workers, AI is gonna it's already getting there.

4:24Figure out a system that is within that niche, and then be the first movers and do it, and I guarantee you will be able to be successful, make money, and have a really good living because there's a lot of people that still don't wanna do it. But if you can save 1,000 bucks, they're gonna figure it out.

4:47If you charge them $200, they'll just hand it off to you because they value their time more than that. The reason why I wanted to dive into it is because I was paying $1,500, and the back and forth just didn't feel right. So once I saw that on social media, scrolling less than 45 seconds, showing the real being done by Claude Code and me having accesses to all these apps and just trying it myself and it working I'm like, this world is getting nutty, but I'm gonna be the first mover to it.

5:19I've already, had a conversation with my editor, and I'm gonna continue to, leverage that. Now, the key thing is if you wanna still be an editor because you love it, be that premium editor. Be that 1% that everyone's gonna have a very similar reel, YouTube Shorts eventually. Just like graphic design, it's all becoming very generic.

5:42But if you're that 1% of the 1% that can make a reel that looks so premium, business owners will pay $2,000, $3,000 for that. So that premium product is gonna go through the roof. Be that person or sell to the masses. Pick one and go with it, but the middle ground on generalists is not gonna work, and I guarantee you, over time, it's just gonna be job after job after job.

6:11How these people are gonna work, like I've hired a contractor from Fiverr. This is all she does. This is what she does. This is how she makes money. Now, if AI can do it, I'm curious of what the next step is gonna be for her. But content like this could maybe get her to think differently and sell this infrastructure, this tool to other people, where she can make some money, do great things, and be able to leverage AI as a tool and a distribution versus actually do the work.

6:43But it's happening, guys. I'm seeing it firsthand and this is what this whole podcast is about, is founders being ahead of the curve, being early adopters. That's how I am in my business for everything. And, I hope this brings content for you as this is a small step in the bigger pie of it's just gonna get better and better
